Mission and Goals

Mission: Promote sound floodplain management strategies throughout the Pacific Northwest by providing training, networking opportunities, and forums for discussions of issues in the field of floodplain management. NORFMA includes Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, and British Columbia.

Goals:

  • Actively promote and support more diversity in the field of floodplain management focusing on equity and accessibility.
  • Provide a networking forum to exchange ideas on floodplain management practices through our education programs, trainings, and conferences.
  • Encourage multi-benefit floodplain management approaches that incorporate climate change resilience, ecological restoration, natural floodplain function, and flood hazard reduction.
  • Promote collaboration and coordination between agencies and other organizations involved in floodplain management.
  • Increase opportunities to implement programs that reduce the risk of flood damages and increase the ecological function of floodplains.
  • Support floodplain managers in meeting the needs of our communities.
